this article seems slightly confusing, but I think I like the idea of the whole value added tax(VAT). its been used in europe for decades. what do you guys think?
This is very interesting. I've heard a lot about the VAT and the super high sales tax. To tell you the truth, I've still got mixed feelings on the two. Even if you were to eliminate the income tax and substitute the VAT and/or a higher sales tax (yeah right, they'll end up sticking us for all of the above), what does that mean for someone who is in their late 40s or in their 50s? The money they have saved all their lives in preparation for retirement now is not worth as much because of the decreased purchasing power resulting from the VAT or sales tax increase. It does have it's advantages, however. Oh yeah, I find a few of the lines praising the European system to be a little funny. Do we really want to go that direction and have even more money taken from us by the federal government?
